Are Oreos Vegan in the UK?
Oreos contain no animal-derived ingredients in the UK. The biscuit is made from flour, sugar, cocoa, vegetable oil, and soya lecithin. The “crème” filling contains no dairy.
However, Oreo’s own website states they are not suitable for vegans due to “cross contact with milk” during manufacturing. This means traces of milk may be present from shared equipment.
Most vegans eat Oreos without concern. Cross-contact is about traces from manufacturing, not ingredients. The Vegan Society does not classify cross-contact as making a product non-vegan. If you have a milk allergy, avoid them. If your concern is ethical (not wanting to fund animal agriculture), the ingredients themselves are plant-based.
The only Oreo flavour that is NOT vegan by ingredients is Peanut Butter Oreos, which contain dairy. All other UK Oreo varieties (Classic, Golden, Double Stuf, Chocolate Cream) are plant-based.
