Is Pringles Vegan? UK Flavours Ranked for Vegans
Pringles are one of the most popular crisps in the UK, but the vegan options are more limited than you might expect. The good news is that the most popular flavour — Original — is vegan. The bad news is that most other flavours contain dairy.
Vegan Pringles flavours
- Pringles Original — the classic salted flavour. Ingredients are just dried potatoes, vegetable oil, rice flour, wheat starch, maltodextrin, and salt. Fully vegan.
- Pringles Paprika — vegan. The paprika seasoning is plant-based.
- Pringles Texas BBQ Sauce — vegan in the UK. The smoky BBQ flavouring does not contain dairy.
- Pringles Hot & Spicy — vegan.
NOT vegan Pringles
- Sour Cream & Onion — contains milk powder and whey. One of the most popular flavours but not vegan.
- Cheese & Onion — contains milk derivatives.
- Salt & Vinegar — contains lactose (a milk sugar). This catches many people out since salt and vinegar sounds like it should be vegan.
- Prawn Cocktail — contains milk powder. Unlike Walkers Prawn Cocktail which is vegan, the Pringles version is not.
- BBQ (standard, not Texas) — some formulations contain milk. Check the label.
Why Salt & Vinegar is the biggest trap
With Walkers, Salt & Vinegar is vegan. With Pringles, it is not. This catches out a lot of vegans who assume crisp flavours are universal across brands. Pringles Salt & Vinegar contains lactose as a bulking agent in the seasoning. Always check the specific brand, not just the flavour name.
Pringles in multipack and party sizes
The ingredients are the same regardless of the size — a Pringles Original in the small snack can has the same formulation as the large party tube. The flavour name is the only thing that matters.
The verdict
