Vegan BBQ Guide UK: Everything You Need for Summer 2026
BBQ season in the UK runs from roughly May to September (weather permitting). A vegan BBQ is genuinely easy to pull off, and most of what you need is available in any supermarket.
Vegan burgers for the BBQ
- Beyond Meat Burger — the premium option. Looks and cooks like a beef burger. Around £4.50 for two. Available at most supermarkets.
- THIS! Isn’t Beef Burger — good UK alternative, slightly cheaper.
- Supermarket own brand — Tesco Plant Chef, Sainsbury’s Plant Pioneers, and Aldi Plant Menu all sell BBQ-ready burgers from £2.
Vegan sausages
- Richmond Meat Free — hold up well on a BBQ, widely available.
- Tofurky Beer Brats — a genuine BBQ sausage rather than a breakfast one. Available at some supermarkets and health food shops.
- Supermarket own brand — all the major ranges have BBQ-suitable sausages.
Vegetables on the BBQ
Don’t neglect the veg — some of the best BBQ food is naturally plant-based:
- Corn on the cob — brush with vegan butter and grill for 10–15 minutes. Season with salt and smoked paprika.
- Portobello mushrooms — marinate in soy sauce, garlic, and olive oil. Grill gill-side up for 5–6 minutes. Serve in a burger bun.
- Halved peppers — grill until charred. Stuff with hummus.
- Thick aubergine slices — brush with oil and grill until soft. Smoky and meaty.
- Pineapple rings — grill for 2–3 minutes each side. Caramelises beautifully.
Vegan sides
- Coleslaw (make with vegan mayo — Hellmann’s Vegan is widely available)
- Potato salad (same swap — vegan mayo instead of regular)
- Green salad, hummus, guacamole, salsa, bread rolls
