Vegan M&S, Waitrose, and Co-op UK: Premium Supermarket Guide
The premium UK supermarkets have some of the most innovative vegan ranges. They cost more, but the quality and variety is often a step above the mainstream alternatives.
M&S Plant Kitchen
M&S has one of the best supermarket vegan ranges in the UK. Plant Kitchen covers everything from fresh meals to frozen, snacks to desserts.
- Plant Kitchen Ready Meals — mushroom stroganoff, Thai green curry, cauliflower tikka. Consistently excellent quality. Around £4–5 each.
- Plant Kitchen Frozen — new 2026 range includes No Beef Mince, No Chicken Pieces, and Mushroom Meatballs.
- Plant Kitchen Sandwiches — available in the M&S Food halls and M&S Simply Food at train stations and motorway services.
- Plant Kitchen Desserts — cheesecakes, brownies, and ice cream that rival non-vegan equivalents.
Waitrose Plantlife
Waitrose’s vegan range is smaller but premium. Their focus is on less-processed, whole-food options:
- Plantlife Ready Meals — higher price point (£4–6) but high quality.
- Symplicity range — new for 2026, fermented vegetable-based burgers and sausages at 196 Waitrose stores.
- Waitrose own-brand vegan cheese — some of the best supermarket vegan cheese available.
Co-op GRO range
Co-op’s GRO range is surprisingly good for a smaller supermarket:
- GRO Sausage Rolls — widely praised, available in their bakery section.
- GRO Burgers and Sausages — competitive with the big supermarkets.
- GRO Ready Meals — smaller range but good quality.
Co-op is particularly useful if you live in a small town or village where it may be the only supermarket. Their vegan range ensures you can eat well even without access to a Tesco or Sainsbury’s.
